Virginia Commission for the Arts Presents Statewide Application Assistance Workshops

JANUARY 5, 2010–The Virginia Commission for the Arts will present a series of statewide application assistance workshops to be held in January and February, 2010.  Workshop locations include:  Danville, Abingdon, Christiansburg, Harrisonburg, Richmond, Norfolk and Alexandria.

VCA Program Coordinator Cathy Welborn and Arts-in-Education Coordinator Elizabeth Cantile will provide an overview of grant programs, updates to the Guidelines for Funding,  application and review procedures, as well as general tips on preparing competitive proposals in preparation for the March 1, 2010, and April 1, 2010, application deadlines.

Workshops are free and open to the public; pre-registration is not required.  Attendance is not required in order to apply for Commission funding; however, workshops can be helpful for first-time applicants preparing requests for:

General Operating Support Grants for Arts Organizations; Services to the Field; Project Grants; Local Government Challenge Grants; Artist-In-Education Residencies; Technical Assistance Grants; Touring Assistance for Presenters; Performing Arts Tour Directory; Artist Roster; and Writers in Virginia.

Participants are encouraged to download the 2010-2011 Guidelines for Funding as well as appropriate applications to bring to the workshop; www.arts.virginia.gov Persons requiring the services of an interpreter for the hearing impaired should contact the Commission office at least one week in advance of the workshop.

The Virginia Commission for the Arts is the state agency that supports the arts through funding from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Commission distributes grants to arts and other not-for-profit arts organizations, educational institutions, educators, artists, and local governments.
