Nelson County Economic Development Authority

September 1, 2011

Present: Emily Pelton, Natt Hall, Greg Kelly, Bennett Saunders, John Bruguiere

Absent: Alphonso Taylor

Chairperson  Emily Pelton called the meeting to order and established that there was a quorum.

There was no public comment.

Susan Swink with  Rural Health Outreach gave a presentation on their Corporate Wellness Program.

Motion: To approve the June 16, 2011 meeting minutes.  Bruguiere-Saunders (5-0)

Emily Pelton presented the Treasurer’s Report for review.

LGIP account balance as of 7/31/2011 – $8,766.29

Checking account balance as of 6/30/2011 – $43,461.43

Motion: To approve revisions to EDA bylaws, removing reference to Authority compenstion. Hall-Kelley.  Roll call vote: Natt Hall, aye ; Greg Kelly, aye; Bennett Saunders, aye ; John Bruguiere, aye ; Emily Pelton, aye. (5-0)

Emily Pelton presented information on the Accelerate Virginia broadband program. The Accelerate Virginia Internet speed test is a short and simple online survey and speed test that measures the overall quality and performance of your Internet connection.  Upon completion of the speed test users will receive performance details regarding their Internet connection, as well as a comparison summary based on other speed test results in your community. To participate in the Nelson County Internet speed testing campaign, all residents with Internet access are asked to visit http://acceleratevirginia.org/speedtest

On September 21, 2011, two Customer Service Workshops will be held at the Nelson Center. These are sponsored by the office of Economic Development and Tourism. Presenters are from the Virginia Tourism Corporation. The event is being organized by the Central Virginia Small Business Development Center and the office of Economic Development and Tourism. Virginia Employment Commission is helping to promote the event. The Monticello Artisan Trail participants and all agri-tourism related businesses are the specific target audiences for the workshops, although all 1100 Nelson County businesses were invited.

Greg Kelly thanked Erin McGrath of the Nelson County Times for her steady coverage and wished her well on her new endeavor.
