Nelson and Albemarle Counties, in partnership with Keep Nelson Beautiful, are sponsoring the Celebration on the Rockfish. The event will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Howardsville, at the confluence of the Rockfish and James Rivers. The Celebration commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Virginia Scenic River program by recognizing Earth Day and the scenic designation of the Rockfish River. The event will include a river cleanup on the Rockfish River and a roadside cleanup, as well as exhibitors from environmentally friendly regional community groups. Participants should respond to 434-263-7015 to register for the event. Lunch will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their own canoes. A limited number of canoes will be available for river cleanup activities. There will be kayak demonstrations and complimentary instruction. A batteau will be present during the event.
