Lowesville

Historic community featuring Woodson's Mill, a water-powered grist mill built in 1794 by Guiliford Campbell. The original four-story, 32-foot square structure has been owned and maintained by several families over the years, with the Fulcher family adding two millstones in the 1840s that are still operational today. Dr. Julian B. Woodson expanded the mill in the early 20th century, incorporating an icehouse, sawmill, and foundry. After restoration in the early 1980s, the mill continues to produce stone-ground grain products. Deep Roots Milling operates at the mill one Sunday each month, offering a variety of flours and meals made from regionally grown grains. Adjacent to the mill is the Woodson's Mill House, a Craftsman-style home available for lodging, providing visitors an opportunity to stay near this historic landmark.
